Just a short one. By now everyone is aware of the standoff happening up in Oregon. I see a lot of folks calling these guys “idiots” and opining based on what they know about the situation. For those that do wish to opine for the love of God do yourself a favor and do some research first. The history behind this story is one filled with government abuse, special interest environmental group influence, and other nefarious actions by the government.
No matter how this plays out the media (and politicians) have begun shaping the narrative. Hell an Arkansas State Rep even called for using A-10’s and Apaches to end the standoff. Seriously, a politician (in this case one Arkansas State Representative Nate Bell who calls himself a “reformed RINO”) posted the statement below and then goes on to substantiate his stance using quotes from US law when called out about it.
Here’s a couple for you to chew on there Mr. Representative:
Amendment V :No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a grand jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the militia, when in actual service in time of war or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offense to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.
Amendment VI: In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the state and district wherein the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the assistance of counsel for his defense.
And of course there’s the old pesky Posse Comitatus Act: “Whoever, except in cases and under circumstances expressly authorized by the Constitution or Act of Congress, willfully uses any part of the Army or the Air Force as a posse comitatus or otherwise to execute the laws shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than two years, or both.”
So now our “Reformed Rino” wants to have Congress declare war on American citizens on US Soil. Right.
Folks I don’t really have a solid opinion on if this (meaning the standoff) is just or not. The information I’ve read leads me to believe that in the very least the Government has abused the hell out of these people. As I glean more information my opinion may change.
Now back to the media and shaping the narrative: It doesn’t matter who fires the first shot. The Militiamen will be blamed. Hell Lon Horiuchi is still walking free after firing the first shot at Ruby Ridge and I have no doubt that the government and the media will shape their information presentation fill a narrative that demonizes these men in any way, shape, or form they can.
Furthermore I have absolutely no doubt this crisis will be used to push the current attempt to renew the AWB which is in committee. “Never let a crisis go to waste!” right?
I’ll close with this: Arkansas State Representative Nate Bell’s Facebook post comments just as easily could have been said in the British Parliament back in the 1700s in reference to the Sons of Liberty.
